Tunbridge Wells weather! What is the weather in Tunbridge Wells going to be like today or tomorrow or even for the next five days to a week? Will is rain? Is it going to be good weather, hot and sunny? Or are things going to go wrong and their be snow in the clouds, preparing myself for a total gridlock on the roads and the school children off again, while the whole family are stuck indoors? One thing is that everyone loves to talk about the weather, especially the British, and the weather forcast.

The weather may be a favourite topitc to many people, but the weather in Tunbridge Wells affects people in different ways. The night before, or or just before we head out, most people will check the latest weather forecast or take a look out of the window to judge what the weather is doing and predict what is may do later on in the day. The climate is a funny thing and will affect what you do, what you wear, and where you go during the day; that is if it is not raining and you have already decided to stay indoors.

Fortunately, with Tunbridge Wells being in the South East of England, Tunbridge Wells weather is some of the best in the United Kingdom, with overall warmer and dryer summers and milder winters compared with the average UK Weather. However, exceptions occur and changes to these conditions can change with record temperatures in summer and extremely cold winter spells, supposedly to global warming, have had to be endured over the recent past few years.

The weather has many aspects about it and is very interesting, geographically or whether it is sunny one minute and raining the next. It can be a huge impact on our lives as it can effect us in many ways, from wanting to know what the roads will be like, or whether school wills till be on as well as how business may be impacted that day.  

Why is the Weather in Tunbridge Wells Important?

Being in the well-known, luxurious Kent, Tunbridge Wells is an important part of the county's outdoor entertainment, with many festivals, events, famer’s markets, car boot sales and sporting fixtures being held in the town throughout the year. The go ahead of these occasions often depends largely on the Tunbridge Wells weather, as there is nothing more likely to stop people attending or playing sports than a surprising large amount of continual rain.

Tunbridge Wells Events We have all been and seen the pictures of music festivals where a downpour has occureed and the poor supporters that have to watch and listen is muddy conditions. However, fortunately in Kent, the music festivals occur later on in summer, where the weather in Tunbridge Wells is likely to be more reliable, allowing music festivals and events to go ahead, with a minimal amount of disruptions. So, fingers cross that this year will be the same, and with a major music festival occurring at the Hop Farm, it will go ahead in sunny conditions and will not be interupted but rain like many of Glastonbury’s events.

Other events in Tunbridge Wells reliant on a good weather forecast include The famer’s market, pantiles market, Tunbridge Wells Cricket fixtures, car boot sales, and the major fireworks displays which are held throughout the region in November in the many parks Tunbrdge Wells have.

Tunbridge Wells Sports

Most outdoor sports are affected by the weather, but the main sport that needs the sunshine in the summer is cricket. Tunbridge Wells Cricket Club can be harshly effected by rain, losing valuable points if they do not play a match. However, Tunbridge Wells Football club can carry on in most weather conditions, as long as the snow stays away.  

With the recent snow and freezing conditions late last year (2010), Tunbridge Wells Football Club suffered with fixture postponements, and ended up not playing a competitive match for a while. This resulted in a backlog of fixtures which need to be made up later in the season, with some of them being lost.

The last significant flooding in Tunbridge Wells was in 2001. Following a massive storm, most of Tunbridge Wells town centre was flooded, as well as the near by town Tonbridge, where the water was coming over the bridge. Many sand bags had to be used to save shops flooding as well as houses. It stopped people getting to work and school, and caused a lot of congestion. The flooding remained for several days causing much disruption and damage to properties.

Snow

Snow in Tunbridge Wells is not uncommon during the winter months. However, it can cause a huge amount of disruption to many people, as rail services seem not to operate, with the A21 roads closing and you not being able to drive on the, due to safety conditions.

In general, Tunbridge Wells has at least one fall of snow each year, which can cause disruption to transport and the closure of local schools, but the period of tends not to persist for any significant length of time and on average is about 2 weeks. But over the last few years, there have been more then one occasion on snow fall in the year.

Sun

In general, the summertime is quite pleasant in Tunbridge Wells, and if the opportunity occurs, head down to one of the many parks in Tunbridge Wells and enjoy the sunshine with an ice-cream in one hand. You can also visit the lakes where it can be a refreshing, relaxing and quite day for you and the family.
